The miner profession is known for its danger and complexity. Work at the mine greatly undermines human health. Despite all the security systems, several dozen people die every year in mines. But people still continue to descend underground to earn money for a living.
Diamonds, coal, ore - all these minerals are mined in mines, as they lie deep underground. High air temperature and lack of sunlight: these are the main negative factors of being underground, especially at a depth of several kilometers. What are the deepest mines in the world?
10. Komsomolskaya | depth 1200 m
Designed in 1977 at the Vorkuta coal field. It is the second most powerful mine in the Pechora coal basin. It appeared thanks to the idea of combining three mines into one.
Currently, work at the mine is going on at a depth of more than 1 kilometer. It is the deepest mine in our country. The chess field is 11 km from the city of Vorkuta. True, coal reserves are running out: they will last until 2018.
9. Mine them. V.M. Bazhanova | depth 1200 m
Built in 1964. The mine, occupying 9th place in the top of the deepest in the world, has a capacity of 1250 thousand tons of coal per year. Industrial reserves are 72.4 million tons, reservoir reserves are 15.8 million tons. The mine is located in Makeevka (Ukraine, Donetsk region).
8. Skochinsky | depth 1200 m
The mine, located in the city of Donetsk (Kirovsky district), was designed in 1959. Construction began in 1962 and lasted 13 years, until 1975. Initially, the mine was called Petrovskaya-Glubokaya, but was renamed in honor of the scientist and academician A.A. Skochinsky, awarded 5 Orders of Lenin. They built a mine that takes 8th place in the list of the deepest mines in the world to replace old pre-war mines, which were not possible to operate at a depth of more than 900 meters. It has an area of 100 square kilometers and reserves of more than 150 million tons. One of the most technically equipped mines in the world.
7. Progress | depth 1340 m
The mine, with a capacity of 1800 tons per year, was built in 1973. It has reserves of 95.5 million tons per year. Capacity: 650 thousand tons per year. It has three centrally constructed shafts located on the central platform. The air in the mine, which is one of the deepest in the world, is supplied using two cage trunks, 8 meters in diameter.
At the moment, progress is being carried out at Progress for the most powerful and seasoned h8 formation. The mine is located in the Ukrainian city of Torez (Donetsk region).
6. The Guards | depth 1430 m
This mine, ranked 6th on the list of the deepest mines in the world, began operations in 1967. It mainly develops ore of medium and high strength, with a length of 100-200 meters. Preparatory work goes at a depth of 1150 meters. And mountain - 1350-1430 meters. Reserves are explored to a depth of 1900 meters. The mine produces chamber development systems and caving systems. At work, more than 1300 hard workers are involved. Located in the Ukrainian city of Krivoy Rog.
5. Mining - Deep | depth 1546 m
The mine is located in the east of Donbass. It is one of the youngest and most powerful mines in the world. Built in 1986. The miners extract top-class thermal coal on it, which then goes to use power plants. The reserves of the deep mine, which occupies the middle of our top, are limited, but they will be enough for another half a century. Explored reserves that can be used in the future should not be ruled out. Coal mining, increasing every year, takes place at a depth of more than 1,400 meters. Shakhtar-Glubokaya is one of the most promising enterprises in Ukraine.
4. Mponeng | depth 3777 m
The mine, with a depth of 3,777 meters, is one of the deepest in the world. Most of the metal mined on it is gold. Located near Johannesburg in South Africa. The plans of the mine leadership to make the depth even greater. Mponeng is known for the fact that in 2002, scientists found an extremophile bacterium living in the mine due to radioactive ores. The mine is owned by Anglogold Ashanti.
3. Western deep mine | depth 3900 m
The mine, which took the bronze of our top, has a depth of 3900 meters. Workers work there in terrible and extreme conditions. After all, the air temperature in the mine rises above 60 degrees, and there is a constant danger of explosions and breakthroughs of groundwater. But for the owners of a mine located in South Africa, the life of miners is not so important, because we are talking about gold mining!
2. Witwaterserand | depth 4500 m
Witwatersersrand, which took the silver of our rating of the deepest mines in the world, as well as the two previous mines, is located in South Africa. Workers are engaged in gold mining in conditions, no better than at the "Western deep mine". The temperature inside the building reaches 50 degrees. And this despite the powerful ventilation.
1. Tau-Tona | depth 5000 m
Tau Tona is not only the deepest, but also the largest mine in the world. The number of workers is 35,000 people (of which 6,000 miners). The mine, whose name translates as "the great lion," is located 50 kilometers from Johannesburg. The construction of the Tau Tons began in 1957, and commissioning took place in 1962.
There are terrible and dangerous working conditions. After all, the area in which the mine is located is seismically dangerous. And the temperature inside reaches 60 degrees. And only with the help of special potholes can the air be cooled to 30 degrees.
